Settlement Civilizations before the First Century AD:
The major settlements in Italy before the rule of the Roman Empire were the Etruscans in the north, the Greeks in the very southern tip, and a mix of three smaller groups of people known as the Umbrian, Oscan, and Messapic people. They were very quickly overthrown by the Romans. |

Factors behind rapid GrowthAncient Rome is such an important aspect in the history of Italy because it was the first major civilization in the area. All of the natural resources in the area along with a development of an actual governing system over the people who lived there all contributed to the rise of this great empire. They could easily expand east to west outside of Italy because crops that successfully grew there could be easily transported and grown along the same line of latitude. After rapid growth in the empire, internal power struggles led to a quick fall. Roman leaders did not ever take into account how complicated it would have been to actually keep control of such a vast empire without conflict with surrounding civilizations looking for the same type of power.

This population pyramid is a representation of how the population looked in 1950. The lower part of the population was where the largest amount of the population lied. This means that adults in 1950 were having more children than they had been before. There were not many births in the 1930's. We can tell because there is a huge decrease in population size for people 25-30. This tells us that some outside force influenced the population.

This population pyramid is a representation of Italy's population present day. This shows the trends of amount of births for almost a century, because people are living to the age of 100, and they were not in 1950. It shows that the older population (over70) had lots of children, and their children began to start having less and less children.the population looks as though it will keep decreasing in the following years.
